How many Top-100 high school football players participated in the 2012 NFL playoffs?

January 25, 2012

Using NFL data from Yahoo sports and High School data from www.rivals.com as of Monday, January 23, 2012, I wanted to see if high school football success translated into 2012 NFL playoff team success.

The www.rivals.com Top 100 High School football players (seniors only) data starts with the 2002-recruiting season (2001 high school football season).

Seventy-Four high school Top 100 players are on the 12 NFL playoff team rosters.

You can see that the Cincinnati Bengals have the most high school Top 100 players on their roster with eleven.

The Green Bay Packers have the fewest with two.

Of the 2012 Super Bowl participants:

The New England Patriots have three.

The New York Giants have five.

The University of Florida provided the most high school stars to the twelve playoff teams with nine followed by Southern California with six.

Add the two from Florida State and the five from Miami-FL and colleges in the State of Florida (only ten of the 74 players played their high school football in the State of Florida) contributed sixteen high school stars of the 844 total players on the 12 NFL playoff team rosters.

The second set of data orders the 74 high school players alphabetically by the state in which they attended high school.

The states of Florida and Texas lead this group with ten Top-100 recruits each (of the 74).
