Wall of Shame results-2011 season: Weeks one and two div 1-a college football

Wall of Shame results-2011 season:  Weeks one and two div 1-a college football

September 15, 2011

In week one of the 2011 college football season, 118 of the 120 football schools in div 1-a competed in seventy-eight different games.

The home team won 70 of those 78 games including 36 of the 38 games played against a div 1-aa opponent.

Note:  Not one div 1-a team was a visitor against a div 1-aa opponent.

In week two of the 2011 college football season, 110 of the 120 football schools in div 1-a competed in sixty-five different games.

The home team won 48 of those 65 games including 20 of 20 games played against a div 1-aa opponent.

Note:  Not one div 1-a team was a visitor against a div 1-aa opponent.

In week three of the 2011 college football season (this week), 112 of the 120 football schools in div 1-a will be competing in sixty-four different games.  Sixteen of those games will be against a div 1-aa opponent.  Again, all div 1-aa teams will be the visitor.

In week four, thirteen div 1-a teams continue to schedule a div 1-aa opponent.

In week five, thankfully only two games are scheduled against a div 1-aa opponent.

div 1-aa Bethune-Cookman at div 1-a Miami-FL

div 1-aa Towson State at div 1-a Maryland

In weeks six and seven, not one div 1-a school competes against a div 1-aa opponent.

In week eight, two div 1-a schools scheduled the alleged lesser opponent.

Div 1-aa Jacksonville State at Kentucky

Div 1-aa Idaho State at div 1-a Brigham Young.

In week nine, div 1-aa Fordham plays at div 1-a Army.

In week ten, div 1-aa Tennessee-Martin plays at div 1-a Mississippi State.

In week eleven, not one div 1-a school competes against a div 1-aa opponent.

In week twelve, as schools prepare for the next week’s season ending major rivalry game,

Div 1-aa Furman plays at div 1-a Florida,

Div 1-aa Citadel plays at div 1-a South Carolina,

defending National Champion Auburn, scheduled div 1-aa Samford (enrollment 4,715 in the Fall of 2010) at Auburn.  Samford University is a private, coeducational, Alabama Baptist-affiliated university located in Homewood, a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama.  The 2010 freshman class at Samford averaged an SAT score of 1190 and 99% were in the top 10% of their high school graduating class.

div 1-aa Georgia Southern plays at div 1-a Alabama, which very well might be the #1 team in the country at that time.  Georgia Southern has an enrollment of 19,691 (Fall of 2010) and a freshman class averaging over 1100 on the SAT.

It should be noted that Alabama plays at Auburn in week thirteen.

In weeks thirteen, fourteen, and fifteen, not one div 1-a school competes against a div 1-aa opponent.

The practice of a div 1-a football factory scheduling a home game against a div 1-aa school is as shameful as one can get.  Those schools doing so will not get any respect from me nor will they get my vote in the national championship rankings.

The schools I am most impressed with are:

Utah State traveling to Auburn in week one, (Utah State lost)

Oregon traveling to Louisiana State (Oregon lost)

Minnesota traveling to USC in week one. (Minnesota lost)

Brigham Young traveling to Mississippi in week one, (Brigham Young won)

Boise State traveling to Georgia in week one, (Boise State won)

Alabama traveling to Penn State in week two, (Alabama won)

Brigham Young traveling to Texas in week two, (Brigham Young lost)

Even though the visiting team lost four of these seven games, I admire all seven visiting teams for their integrity (yes even winner Alabama) for having the gumption and sportsmanship to challenge the best.

Brigham Young, Utah State and Boise State have been willing to take on all opponents for years, but could never get a game scheduled against the Big Six conferences or a reasonable explanation (Actually the Big Six conference folks were scared of losing.)

I am pulling for all three of these teams.
