I DID NOT WATCH THE SUPER BOWL BECAUSE:
Bigger is not better.
I want America’s professional football
championship game to be a game, not a spectacle.
I want American professional football played
as a Raider Autumn Wind, not during the spring-training baseball season.
I want the championship of American professional
football to be decided before Christmas.
I do not want to watch 3 hours and 48 minutes
of television commercials in order to see 12 minutes of actual playing time.
I do not want to watch a bleached blonde
bimbo, who has had months to prepare, screw up both the lyrics and the music of the National Anthem all the while looking
as if she needed to go to the bathroom.
I do not want to watch a halftime show
of drugged-up, slovenly punks screaming noise into microphones and claim this as legitimate music and entertainment.
I do not believe Vince Lombardi would want
his trophy to be awarded to a bunch of pompous, mostly self-serving, tattooed, in your face, heaven-pointing steroid freaks.
I do not want to watch $250 million Alex
Rodriguez’s girlfriend of the month, hand-feeding him popcorn in his private suite.
I want American professional football played
on grass, in the daytime, in the elements, not on plastic, in a billion dollar dome, at night.
I want to see the breath of fans and players
turning into frost as they exhale.
I want to see dirt and grass-stains on
the uniforms of the players.
I want Roger Goodell, the commissioner
of American professional football, to be fair and just, not act as Julius Caesar in 65 BCE when he was elected curule aedile
and spent lavishly on games to win popular favor; (http://www.vroma.org/~bmcmanus/caesar.html.)
I want a skinny little twerp like ESPN’s
obsessively compulsive Michael Greenberg, (a man who appears to possess as few manly qualities as possible and still be called
a man) to be amazed that two out of three Americans CHOSE not to watch this stupid American pagan holiday spectacle.
Thirty-two filthy rich owners of the teams
in American professional football want to add two more games to the regular season schedule and have the championship of American
professional football played AFTER the opening of the major league baseball season.
I want the legitimate players who play
American professional football to be able to enjoy a reasonably healthy and normal life after they retire from football rather
than having to deal with dementia, pain-killer addiction, and football induced joint replacement surgery.
I love sports but I hate what sport has
become.
Sincerely,
George Sarkisian
A disgusted sports fan
